The Waltonian - July 1st Newsletter
Oh my! It’s been over two months since the last newsletter went out. My apologies! I was busy with a job search and move; I now live in New York City (eek!) but plan on returning to Walton when I can. This newsletter will continue on a monthly schedule.
Here’s some of what’s happening in Walton in July:
The Walton Farmers Market kicks off at Veterans Plaza on July 5th, from 10am to 2pm and will then continue every Friday through September. For the kick off on July 5th there will be special events including an ice cream social and live music, for more information check out the event on Facebook.
There will be village-wide yard sales (over 45 of them, I’ve heard) on July 5th and 6th. Those interested are encouraged to check out Walton Gently Used for updates.
West Branch Artists is hosting its first annual “Walton Art Walk” on July 20th. More details from the event page: “Join us on a FREE self-guided walking tour in the Village of Walton, featuring the work of local visual artists and artisans. Tour-goers will see original artworks on display in the storefront windows of local businesses and within venues located along Delaware Street, Gardiner Place and North Street in Walton, New York. Lots of creative activities for the whole family, an Artisans Market at Veteran's Plaza, and a few surprise happenings are in store for visitors! It is an excellent opportunity for both the artists and our local businesses to highlight what they do best. The Walton Art Walk is a project of the newly formed, West Branch Artists. WBA's mission is to build community and economic resilience in Walton through creating, making and sharing art.“
The village library’s summer programs are so plentiful I can’t fit them all here! So be sure to check out the July library newsletter for a bunch of fun activities for kids, teens, adults, and families.
The Cannon Free Library in Delhi is celebrating its Literary Landmark Status (it was once featured in Jean Craighead George’s My Side of the Mountain) tomorrow: “The Board of Trustees and the staff of the Cannon Free Library invite everyone in the community to join them at a celebratory reception on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 (incidentally, the 100th birthday of the late Ms. George!) to witness the unveiling of the cast bronze plaque in honor of the library’s Literary Landmark status. Light refreshment will be served and various materials relating to Jean Craighead George and My Side of the Mountain will be on display for examination.”
A reminder that the elementary and high school are serving free breakfast and lunch for kids and youth under 18 from Monday through Thursday for most of the summer. Adults can also eat, for $3. Breakfast at Townsend from 7:45 to 9am and lunch from 11:00am to 12:30pm. At the high school breakfast is served from 7:30 to 8:30am and lunch from 10:00am to 12:30pm. These meals start July 8th.
The next village board meeting is tonight at 6:00pm, the next town board meeting is July 8th at 6:00pm, and the next board of education meeting is July 2nd at 6:00pm.
